AZAADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV: UPMRC CONDUCTS FIRST EVER HERITAGE METRO RIDE FROM ALAMBAGH BUS STAND TO VISHWAVIDALAYA METRO STATION

Under the auspices of Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav; UPMRC is celebrating the ‘Swatantrata Saptah’ from 11th to 17th August 2022. Today, UPMRC in association with a well known historian Shri Ravi Bhatt conducted a ‘Heritage Metro Ride’ from Alambagh Bus Stand to Vishwavidayalaya Metro Station. Shri Ravi Bhatt after the arrival at the concourse area of Alambagh bus stand metro station addressed the gathering of students and UPMRC employees with a brief speech.

In his speech, he said “Lucknow holds a special place in the history of freedom struggle of India. Right from Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 to Role of Nawabs of Awadhs to narratives of historical buildings; Lucknow played a vital role in the history of ‘Indian Freedom Struggle’.

Lucknow's role in the Indian freedom struggle is pretty unique because of its role in the 1857 uprising. What started out as a mutiny by inflamed Indian soldiers, and was also joined by many residents of the city who wanted to get rid of the British, this uprising is also known as the First War of Independence. During the unrest, many monuments in Lucknow played pivotal roles in the battle that spanned over a year”.

 

Commemorating the 14th August 2022 as 'Horrors of Partition Remembrance Day' also known as 'Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Divas' , Shri Ravi Bhatt inaugurated the 'Vibhajan Vibhishika Divas'exhibition. He also threw light on the history of partition of India and difficult conditions under which people from both the nations were compelled to migrate from their native places. He said that ' Many innocent lives were lost during partition and it was painful chapter in the history of India.

 

 After addressing the gathering at Alambagh Bus Stand Metro Station, he boarded the metro to Vishwavidayalay Metro Station. During his commute by metro, he along with the group of students and UPMRC officials took a stop-over of five minutes at Charbagh, Sachivalay and Hazratganj Metro Stations. During the stopover, he explained the significance of each and every place in the history of Lucknow. The entire heritage Metro Ride concluded at Vishwavidalaya Metro Station.

In context to the ‘Heritage Metro Ride’ conducted by Lucknow Metro,Shri Sushil Kumar, MD UPMRC said “Lucknow has played an important role in the ‘History of Independence Struggle of India’. The heritage Metro Ride by Lucknow Metro has given the students and

the students and people an opportunity to re-live the golden moments of the history.

This heritage Metro Ride reminds us of the struggle of freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to give us a bright future. This heritage Metro Ride conveys a strong message to every Indian that the ideals and values of those freedom fighters should not be forgotten. We should implement these values in our personal and professional lives for the progress and well being of our nation”.
