Army soldiers killed in encounter in UT JK

JK : Five Indian Army soldiers were killed in an encounter that broke out in the Poonch sector of UT Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Among the deceased are four jawans and one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO).

The operation was launched in a village close to Dara Ki Gali in Surankote in the early hours following intelligence inputs about the presence of Militants , a Defence spokesman said. He said the militants opened heavy fire on the search parties resulting in critical injuries to the JCO and four other ranks. All the five soldiers succumbed to their injuries.

The officials said there are reports about the presence of a group of heavily-armed militants in Chamrer forest after they managed to sneak from across the Line of Control (LoC).Those who lost their lives in today’s encounter have been identified as Nb/Sub Jaswinder Singh, SM, Nk Mandeep Singh, Sep Gajjan SinghFrom Punjab, Sep Saraj Singh from Shahjahanpur,Uttarpradesh and Sep Vaisakh H,Kottarakara, from Kollam, Kerala.

The encounter was going on and further details are awaited as the fresh firing resumed in the area, the spokesman said.
