AIMPLB Rejects Government bill on 3 Talak. Dubs it against Constitution.

Lucknow, 27th December 2017: ALL INDIA MUSLIM PERSONAL LAW BOARD, (AIMPLB) in its emergency meeting, held in Lucknow rejected outright the Union government proposed bill, by calling it anti-women, against the principles of Shariah and interference in Muslim Personal law. The AIMPLB in its emergency meeting held at Darul Uloom, Nadwa has urged the government to withdraw the bill, as it’s against Shariah. The board is of the opinion that the proposed bill is against the constitutional rights of Muslims.

AIMPLB through its President Maulana Syed Rabey Nadvi will approach the Prime Minister, to reconsider the proposed bill.

Consequences of the proposed bill are against the welfare of Muslim women and their families. The proposed bill will disintegrate the families. The board proposes to consult all opposition political parties and other related. The board will also write to the Prime minister, to review the bill. The board questioned the naming to differentiate between thrice divorced females and others. The board also observed that government will deprive, thru this bill the right of males to divorce also. Instant Talaq was also made illegal and the board also questions the three years jail term, as proposed, as a contradiction to court’s ruling, of providing for maintenance.

20  members of the AIMPLB took part in the meeting, including Asaduddin Owaisi, Zafaryab Jilani, Dr. Asma Zahra, Khalilur Rehman Nomani, Maulana Wali Rehman  (Secretary) and Mamdooda Majid.  However, VP of the board Maulana Kalbe Sadiq abstained from the meeting.

The AIMPLB also observed that parliamentary procedure of drafting the bill was not followed in case of the bill,  as neither stakeholders, affected parties nor women organisation or even AIMPLB were consulted before framing the bill. This bill was framed under a committee which was headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
