In a press conference held at KGMU, by its VC, Prof M L Bhatt regarding the unfortunate incident at NTPC,Unchahar he informed that rofa total 11 patients were admitted in its Trauma Centre. They were brought late in the 0night and the VC along with his staff was personally supervising the treatment to all patients. He also said that treatment was free of cost .CMS Prof. S N Shankwar has been deputed to look after all arrangements.
VC also mentioned that K P Maurya -deputy CM visited the trauma centre late on night to personally see all the medical arrangements and treatment given to the burn injured. .Later in the day Ashutosh Tandon , Medical minister and Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar also visited the trauma centre .More than 40 specialist are providing their services at the moment. Two other specialist Plastic surgery HOD Prof. A K Singh and Prof. Vijay Kumar are also monitoring the situation closely.
Replying to my question, VC Bhatt, said that to shift the patient to Medanta or Safdarjung hospitals init New Delhi will be entirely that of NTPC. He further added that 3 air ambulances are parked for this purpose only.
Prof Bhatt said our burn unit is nearly 80%ready but the government need to expedite the completetion and to provide nearly 50 more qualified Dr for it.
In view of the massive tragedy at NTPC Unchahar it is commendable, that at limited resources, KGMU with its staff is handling the situation very appreciably.
It is to be seen how the state government reacts to such tragedies, and provide more facilities to one of the most prestigious KGMC, which is now known as KGMU.
